** District Resource Teacher - Indigenous Education **
1.0 FTE Continuing
The District Resource Teacher for Indigenous Education is a non- enrolling district teacher who reports directly to the District Principal of Indigenous Education. He/She will be providing direct support throughout the district. In consultation with the Indigenous Education Curriculum consultant, he/she will play a lead role in schools in planning, developing, implementing, monitoring and delivering Indigenous Education across the district. The successful candidate will be integral in advancing Indigenous Education and the revised B.C. curriculum that includes First Peoples Principles of Learning.
*The VBE has been given approval from the Human Rights Tribunal for a Special Program under s. 42(3) of the Human Rights Code. Under this special program, the VBE seeks to preferentially hire Indigenous persons to a variety of teaching positions. Therefore, each applicant may wish to provide, on a voluntary basis, information whether she or he self-identifies as an Indigenous person.*
Position Details:
Monitor and track the implementation of the new revised B.C. Curriculum - First Peoples Principals of Learning
Collaborate with and guide enrolling, non-enrolling and support staff in implementing the new revised B.C. curriculum
Work in consultation with enrolling classroom teachers on developing and implementing Indigenous educational pedagogy and content
Promote and model the inclusion of Indigenous knowledges, philosophy and culture into classroom curriculum, schools and within thedistrict
Share knowledge of Indigenous pedagogy, education practices, curriculum resources and professional development with colleagues
Completion of a Bachelor of Education
At least two or more years of successful teaching experience and/or coursework related to Indigenous Education is required
Experience in providing instructional support related to Indigenous Education to both elementary and secondary school educators isrequired
Extensive knowledge and successful implementation of Indigenous history and culture is required
Ability to collaborate with the Indigenous Education Department, school and district staff is required
Membership in or eligible to become a member of the Teacher Regulation Board (TRB)
Registration with the Teacher Qualification Service (TQS)
