Job Summary
The purpose of this role is to ensure that the CIHR business, application, data and technology perspectives are in line with the organization?s technology and governance strategies, policies and standards. The incumbent, reporting to the Architecture and Security Manager, is responsible for identifying technical business requirements and risks in CIHR Infrastructure, information technology and information management applications and translate complex requirements into functional architecture. The Technical Architect is responsible for the technical review and oversight of requirements definition, application and infrastructure selection/acquisition, development and deployment to ensure that all CIHR technology integrates correctly and operates reliably and securely. The Technical Architect works closely with the IMTS teams and the CIHR customer base (i.e. Institutes and clients) to understand current and future requirements and to provide advice on technology options. The technical architect produces project proposals and is directly involved in the design, implementation and evaluation of major infrastructure projects, technology Proof of Concept (POC) and pilot programs.
Essential Qualifications
Education:Graduation with a degree (Bachelor?s degree) from a recognized university in computer science, information technology, information management, information science, computer programming, engineering or any other field relevant to the work to be performed or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
*Recent and significant experience in providing expert advice and support to technical staff in all areas of responsibility, including the selection of technology and the impact on the entire technology architecture of the organization.
Experience in applying, monitoring, and contributing to the implementation of technical specifications, policies, guidelines, methodologies and standards in the areas of information technology, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
*Recent and significant experience in translating business requirements into measurable technical design criteria and articulate technical risks and limitations to other groups within the organization in a clear manner.
*Recent and significant experience in ensuring the overall stability and successful integration of all internal technology systems andinterfaces
*Recent and significant experience in reviewing technical designs for adherence to corporate technology standards and their impact on future change and stated technical architecture directions.?
Recent and significant experience refers to the breadth and depth of experience and is defined as a combination of time spent doing the activity, as well as the type (range, scope, and complexity) of work handled related to the experience criteria. Such experience is normally acquired when having performed the duties over a period of 3 years within the last 5 years.
Strong knowledge of current and emerging trends in the fields of information technology, information systems, information management, infrastructure, network architectures, security, telecommunications.
Strong knowledge of system integration, implementation and technical change management methodologies.
Strong detailed knowledge of one or more technical areas (application stacks such as Java, C#, Python, etc., data analytics, cloud applications and IaaS technologies, deployment of applications with Web UI frontend, Deployment of RESTful or SOAP services, content management systems, networking, etc.)
Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture Frameworks. E.g. TOGAF,Zachman
Knowledge of process design and project management principles.
Working with Others (Collaborating and Relationship Management);
Planning and Organizing;
Critical Thinking.
Asset Qualifications
Certifications:AWS Certified Solution Architect, Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert, Google Professional Cloud Architect, TOGAF, Zachman, ITIL and/or CISSP
